IMPACTR - Environmental Impact Assessment 2020.pdf

Our small team is environmentally conscious and makes deliberate choices and efforts to mitigate the environmental impacts of our work.

Key decisions and actions implemented in 2020 to mitigate environmental impact:

CO2 Footprint

Going carbon negative ASAP.

Based on the latest science - "Net zero 2050" is sorry to say, an outdated joke that is allowing and causing most companies to be slow as hell. The Paris agreement is way behind so its up to us to pull the weight for the laggards. We aim to be a carbon negative company. And currently, based on our small team size and operations, we believe we are, and we intend to keep it that way as we grow. We intend to conduct a full scope impact assessment in 2021 to certify our position as a carbon negative company and we will continue to do everything in our power to make carbon negative choices.

Transport

Transport / travel was identified as a key risk for Impactr based on the global spread of the team members. However COVID-19 in 2020 has firmly established Impactr as a remote-working company, which has significantly reduced all current travel via air or other fossil based modes of transport.

Energy Supply

At the Australian HQ, Impactr consumes 100% Green Power which is certificates that are aligned with actual energy generation from local wind and solar farms.

Certified Carbon Offset

Although we realise carbon offsets are not the solution to the climate crisis, the CEO of Impactr has purchased a suite of carbon offset subscriptions in order to at least mitigate some extent of the CO2 emissions generated by the team members and their remote work setups. We also strongly promote content on our app that motivates energy saving practices, as well as engaging with and promoting energy brands that have the most genuine green energy available.

Procurement: Choice of Microsoft Azure for data center & hosting services

We decided against using Amazon Web Services as a provider for the Impactr platform´s server & hosting services based on ethical reasons and also carbon footprint. We make efforts to not be associated with the Amazon company, where it is avoidable. Microsoft aims to be a carbon negative company by 2030.
